Kuromaguro is a Japanese Izakaya specialising in Tuna and they are located both at Suntec City and Tanjong Pagar. Kuro Maguro has been in the Tuna business for over 50 years in Japan and is using the company’s logistics to directly fly the ingredients to Singapore! Talk about effort.
In order to focus better on customer-centric services, Kuro Maguro automates as much of its work operations as it possibly can.
In this case study, Ghib Ojisan brings us to the Tanjong Pagar’s branch and met with Watanabe-san, the manager of Kuro Maguro.
Ghib Ojisan: What’s the reason you guys opened a restaurant in Singapore?
Watanabe-san: We have been selling Maguro for years in Japan and we are looking for opportunities to export them. As Singapore is the hub of Southeast Asia, we thought we can start here!
Ghib Ojisan: So you told me that 5 years ago when you first arrived in Singapore, many customers went for salmon dishes although your specialty is maguro!
Watanabe-san: That’s right. There are many different types of Maguro but people had the wrong understanding that all Maguro is the same. It took time to educate customers that there are different types and parts of Maguro.
Ghib Ojisan: Do you find any difference in doing business between Singapore and Japan?
Watanabe-san: Yes. We have a different set of values when it comes to working.
Ghib Ojisan: Can you elaborate on that?
Watanabe-san: Time… They are more casual, or should I say a little looser..?
Ghib Ojisan: How did you deal with that?
Watanabe-san: I tried to understand their culture but I also wanted them to understand our point too. So, half-half!
Ghib Ojisan: So what are the main reason that made you start using KING OF TIME?
Watanabe-san: Calculating employee salary based on paper-based time stamps was too time-consuming. This is the primary reason we started using KING OF TIME.
