Have you considered how recruitment criteria have evolved in a changing world? The tools and routine of the worker have changed and so will the requirements of the employees.
Of course, for existing employees, it would make sense to re-train. But when it comes to hiring, it would be best to pick one that is most adaptable and suited for the current climate.
So, what are the attributes that we would like to see in our candidate? As you may have already guessed, it is parallel to the way the work environment is trending towards.
1. Candidate is tech-savvy
This is one of the top criteria amongst company today. Technology has trickled down from office workers to even blue-collar workers. One such example is the use of a phone application to apply for leaves and schedule changes. If a significant number of employees are not tech-savvy, this can pose a major obstacle for the companies to adopt new technologies.
2. Candidate is able to work independently
In the new normal, employees may have to rotate work between the office and at home. Even on days when the employee is in the office, the supervisor or manager may not be there. Therefore, employees need to be able to work independently on their own with minimal guidance.
Interviewers will have to probe on past experience or perform some sort of tests in order to identify such characteristics.
3. Candidate is good at expressing thoughts in word
Being able to express their thoughts well in words is becoming increasingly important, especially in a rapidly digitizing world. With most of the communication in an organisation moving from e-mail to instant messaging software, this would prove to be critical.
4. Candidate is willing to pick up new skills
In a world where change is the only constant… candidates need to be able to upskill quickly with mini-courses. In this day and age, obtaining certificates from accredited online sources is as simple as online shopping.
We want to be able to hire talents that can remain relevant in the market for the long run and what could be better than someone who is motivated in learning new skills?
